20 000 Days on Earth.

One of my favorite artists since I can remember, I grew up listening to his murder ballads. He is someone who taught me what real music was supposed to sound like. A genius I admire deeply. Mr. Nick Cave.
No premiere date for Portugal yet., but that's no surprise... Can't wait.

West Coast - Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey's new single West Coast, the first single of a most anticipated new album, is out today.

Is it going to be as good as the previous one? Expectations are high. For now, let's enjoy the video and the character she is playing for us this time.

Fierce, savage words.

I have surfaced from this new book I am editing, a short stories collection about Fernando Pessoa, just  to share with you the words, the perfectly written expression of Jehnny Beth from Savages. I am not going to rewrite them here because it's just offensive to do that to such a beautiful writer.

Instead, I'll leave you with an excerpt I chose from her words and the link to the Huffington Post's article where you can read everything for yourselves.

And Jehnny Beth, if you ever read this humble post, remember that, others, like yourself, still believe in Ars Gratia Artis. So thank you for not giving in. That is the most important thing we can aspire to. And maybe it's OK to sometimes put down the gun - as long as you don't forget how to use it. ;)

"(...) The tour is over I am back home in London, and while I sit at my desk thinking about the million things I need to do (for Savages -- but also for my label Pop Noire) I hear Iggy Pop introducing our song "Shut Up" on his radio show Nitty Gritty on BBC6 music. I listen carefully. He talks about the "rap" intro in the video of "Shut Up," the "Silence Yourself" text I wrote. Just before launching the track he says, "she's got a point," and it makes me smile. I smile because a year ago I remember insisting to keep this intro on the video -- when the idea of cutting it was suggested to fit Vevo's standards. I remember emails I sent, the tone I was using, God, I was so fierce:
I already explained my point of view about this and it hasn't changed. I don't want to have two versions of the video online (...) If the goal is to reach a wider audience, then let's reach them as we are, not as they want us to be.
Such determination still impresses me. Today, the "Shut Up" video has reached over a million views, and as I hear Ayse's bass vibrating my speakers on the start of it, I feel content. I was impressed how many times Iggy used the word "happiness" in his radio show. How difficult the path to make us feel happy but how quickly music can take us there, in an instant we find ourselves dancing. "That's useful music," he says playing MC5. Damn right. Useful music. What else can we aspire to? (...)"

True Blood Season 7

True Blood's season 7 is coming out on June 22nd and I can't wait.
I know it's been a lot of years following this show but what can you do???  love vampires and so does the rest of the world ;)
I started by watching season one, then went straight to Charlaine Harris' books, and then back to season two and so on...
I must say that I read the first three books, both in English and in Portuguese (I am a language geek, so I like to compare and keep up with the quality of translated books that I kinda like), and I have to tell you, the editions that I read were not that well translated. I mean... They had Sookie sticking nails on her wig instead of bobby pins.... Well... vicissitudes of the translated book and that is the reason why I can't mention the Portuguese version of these titles like I usually do (maybe they had the good sense to revise it in the meanwhile).
Must say, for the sake of fairness, that I have met Ms Harris at a book signing in Lisbon (my home town) and she was lovely in a very southern way that I find so charming.

So now for something completely different, here are the two available teasers. Have fun at the graveyard!

Californication: There. are. no. jobs. Hank.

Staying on theme today.
Just waiting for the 13th.

Perpetual Nights - Maxine Ashley

Speaking of heights, here's a perpetual high brought on by the rich deep voice of Maxine Ashley in a song produced by Pharrell Williams.
I would like to leave here the video for all to watch and listen to, but apparently it can't be uploaded. Here's the link to Perpetual Nights and some stills from the vid, have a look and go listen.

Mad Men - It's All Up In The Air.

Mad Men is due back on April 13 and I can't wait to follow these mad people around because I am not scared of heights.

Savages

I don't need many words for what the senses can figure out on their own.

Game of Thrones.

It's the end of this fiction hungover.
Millions are back on weekly fixes.

True Detective.

Have you seen these men?

Of course you have. But not quite like this.
On True Detective they portray two detectives with considerably different work experiences and backgrounds. Woody Harrelson plays the cheating good cop and Mathew McConaughey plays the I-abused-substances-for-wok bad cop. Oversimplifying not to spoil your fun. If there would be another season, this sure could become a cult TV show like Twin Peaks. Just hopping. One of the best TV shows I've seen in a long long time.
I'll leave you with the opening song. This will make up your mind.

Busy.

Hi.
I know... It's been long.
I have been busy with another editing project I'll let you know soon, I've been busy with finishing my first book, and especially, I've been busy looking for more work and being a mom (now there goes my chance of getting a job for sure).
But those are not excuses. Sometimes I just put blogging on the side lines for a while, but I do always come back to it, because, well, because I really love it.
So now I'm here, I'll get busy.
I've watched a show called Eat Drink Love and I really liked it. I've been a huge fan of Australian Masterchef and of chef Anthony Bourdain for as long as I can remember, so I always keep an eye out for food related TV shows such as this one - Eat Drink Love. The show follows Brenda Urban, Jessica Miller, Kat Odell, Nina Clemente and Waylynn Lucas lives as they work and strive in such a competitive business as is the food industry in LA. The show was on Bravo and in Portugal aired on Sic Mulher.
